Collapse Lekki building sealed in 2021

The seven-storey building that collapsed on Sunday morning in Lekki, Lagos was sealed by the Lagos State Government for safety reasons on February 18, 2021, The Nation has learnt.

Two bodies have been recovered from the rubble of the building while about six persons are believed to still be trapped on the site.

Rescue operations by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), among others, are ongoing

It was on the same floor that the two bodies were recovered.

Permanent Secretary (PS), LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident earlier on Sunday.

“Situation report on the collapsed building at Oba Idowu Oniru Street beside Ave Maria Hospital.

“The agency responded to a distress call at the above-mentioned location and activated its response plan. Upon arrival at the scene, an uncompleted seven-storey building undergoing construction was found to have collapsed.

“Six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure. Two bodies have been located and recovered thus far; operation ongoing,” he said.
