Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, has described as unacceptable, the dearth of mentors and other instruments that necessarily and positively inspire young people.
He also warned that Nigeria and Lagos State in particular, stands the risk of producing ineffectual leaders because of the growing problem of god-fatherism, favoritism and a faulty leadership selection process that should give everyone concern.
“As a leader, I want to inspire a new generation of Lagosians. I want to create opportunities and develop skills that will take our dear State to the next level.
“My opponent has said that I lack political experience. It is wrong. Not having been in government does not mean that I am not qualified to run for an elective office.
“In fact, when you look through history, for example, Abraham Lincoln was a government outsider who came and changed how government was run. Mandela, Awolowo and Lateef Jakande also had no government experience but were remarkable leaders.
“Among the critical things needed in governance are capacity, competence, character, and so on. And without meaning to be boastful, I want to say that I possess all that and more.”
