Several officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were confirmed dead and while others were critically injured in a road accident in Kano State.
The fatal incident which occurred near Kura town along Kano/Zaria highway Sunday evening, November 12, 2023, involved an 18-passenger Nissan bus, an official vehicle of the immigration.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of Federal Road Safety, Kano state Command, Abdullahi Labaran said that incident that involved nine men of the service occurred as a result of tyre burst.
Labaran confirmed that two persons died on the spot while seven injured persons were rushed to the hospital.
A source told newsmen that the victims of the accident along other officers were in a long convoy enroute to Abuja after attended a passing out parade ceremony held on Saturday in Kano, when the unfortunate accident occurred.
The bodies of those that lost their lives and those critically injured have been taken to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
A viral video sighted online shows the bodies of the affected immigration officers on the road while sympathizers were seen trying to resuscitate some of them.
